Lost a friend today

My friend Pilar Hernandez passed away this morning unexpectedly in the shower. She was only 51 years old and leaves behind a husband and 2 daughters Pilar and Beatriz who are in their early 20s. Pilar was my customer at Opel Spain, but she became my friend during the more than 3 years that we worked together in Madrid. There are so many wonderful memories flooding my mind tonight - how hard we worked, but also how much fun we had. The many coffee breaks we took throughout the day to chit chat; the stories she told of her daughters who were in grade school at the time, the advice she would give when she knew I was getting stressed and taking work too seriously, the many "copas" taken after work, the Halloween parties, the Spanish swear words she taught me, and more. Memories that I hope last a lifetime and never fade. I last saw Pilar in 2004 which was my last trip to Spain - wish I had gone in the last couple of years now. Fortunately I spoke to her just a few months ago either on Halloween or the day after. I filled her in on Tony and caught up on her life. She was doing well and very happy. Our other friends in Spain are devastated and I hope to speak to them in a few hours when they wake up. I also pray that our friend Patty greeted her at the pearly gates this morning. RIP Pilar - you were one in a million.

  5. I'm so sorry for your loss. It makes us all put our lives into perspective when someone close dies. We realize just how fragile life can be. She was so young. And her poor daughters to loose their mother at such a young age. It's so sad.

  9. Kelly, I'm so sorry for your loss. This is the second young person I know of this week...our neighbor who was 44 passed away yesterday from a blood clot that travelled to his brain. My heart is broken for these families and their loved ones! I'll be keeping you and Pilar's family in my thoughts and prayers.
